Cafe Granja La Esperanza, a century-old farm that has taken great strides under the leadership of two brothers, approached us alongside Jeff Taylor, a legendary Kansas City Roaster with the intention to develop a single-origin cold brew coffee.
As design researchers and coffee enthusiasts, we spent a month in Colombia with the owners and crafted a brand identity and packaging system for the brand inspired by the rich heritage and colorful streets of its origin.

While highly caffeinated on the mountain tops of Colombia, we named the product after Rigo (short for Rigoberto), the farm owner and friend to all.

THE WORDMARK
A two-part wordmark stair-stepping its way to the highest elevations where the world's best coffee is found. We married the name with a supporting sun icon with beams symbolizing the helping hands of the community.

Rigo’s farm continues to support older generations as it's been found their slow, intentional pick of the fruit results in higher-quality batches.

Keeping culture at the center of the design, we spent our days studying and documenting the entire process at the coffee labs and mountain tops with the local farmers. In our off time, we documented visual patterns found on the urban streets of Colombia.
Keeping culture at the center of the design, we spent our days studying and documenting the entire process at the coffee labs and farmlands with the local farmers. In our off time, we observed patterns and type treatments embedded in the spirit of Colombia and started designing on-site with those reflections in mind.
COLOR
We found beauty on Colombia’s side streets. The unintentional overlaps of pastels on competing storefronts made for a playful and harmonious palette.

The beauty of Colombia’s streetscape is the clash of styles that combine into such a playful and harmonious energy which became the colors of the brand.
TYPOGRAPHY
Keeping Colombia at the center of the design system, we explored flexible uses of typography arranging in all directions. The use of stacked letters not only plays along with the youthful look and feel but also ties the brand back to its origin.

COPYWRITING AND MESSAGING
We crafted a smart but energetic brand voice and added in elements of humor to connect with the audience and educate them on the Colombia and its unique land.

We used youthful and energetic copywriting and explored humor to create an open space to connect with the young audience and educate them on the growing process, Rigo, and Colombia.
Rigo posters were gifted to the client in celebration of our journey to the coffee capital of the world. A memorable piece to honor the success of the brand and our gratefulness of the partnership.
