Year
2013
AIGA's Bright Lights Gala celebrates the people who've shaped graphic design. The AIGA Medal is the highest honor in the field, given to designers who've set the bar for a lifetime of work since 1920.
For the 2013 gala, Meryl Vedros designed the program that every guest received, working alongside DJ Stout of Pentagram, who co chaired the event with Min Lew of Base Design. Base handled the branding and invitations. DJ and Meryl built the booklet that told the story of that year's honorees: John Bielenberg, William Drenttel, Jessica Helfand, Jonathan Hoefler, Tobias Frere Jones, Stefan Sagmeister, Lucille Tenazas, and Wolfgang Weingart.
It was a chance to make something that would live in people's hands for one night, honoring a group whose work has quietly defined how design looks and feels for decades. The program later went on to receive a Communication Arts Award of Excellence.
